Although I believe you shouldn’t reserve self care to a specific day of the week, Sunday is when I give myself a little extra lovin’.
I don’t view self care as a monolithic experience, because even for me, it looks like something different week to week, even day to day. At the root, self care is about looking inward and nourishing yourself — that includes your physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual self. During my yoga certification, we learned of a concept called sadhana, which in short is your own personal practice. Each person’s sadhana is going to look different. Self care could be having a quiet night in with a good book and a glass of red, to having a day at the spa, or even cooking up something special for yourself. Shit, self care at times can look like cutting up with the homies that you haven’t seen in the minute. To me, whatever it is that you choose to do, do so with intentionality.
Tune into yourself and see what YOU need in this very moment. For me, I know that looks like taking a nice bath this evening to prep myself for the week. Of course, self care is something you can do daily. Self care is more about checking in with yourself and honoring what it is that you need to thrive and be whole.
What are some steps you can take to love on yourself more? What does self care look like to you? How can you incorporate self care into your life on a more frequent basis?
